It was funny. Right around Christmas I was talking to a friend and it was mentioned that there wasn’t all that much carnage on the NHRA tour in 2021. For a minute I thought about it and I was starting to agree with my friend until I thought about the big pro mod wreck in Gainesville, the craziness in Denver, the motorcycle crash in Charlotte, the fires, the exploding funny cars, and the flying dragsters. Yeah, there was more than enough to go around.
It is a funny thing though. Being front and center for these as part of my job, they are not the most memorable moments of the year for me. Maybe I should be thankful for that. Of course once a video like this stirs my memory, I know exactly where I was watching from, yelling about, or gawking at when all hell broke loose in all of these situations.
The good news is that everyone has been able to heal up. Cory Reed was most badly injured in his crash with Joey Gladstone and while the road to recovery has been long for his leg, he is well on the way down it.
What’s coming in 2022? For everyone in this video, they’re hoping not a return performance.
