Opala VS Maverick – Watch These Brazilian Flyers Rip Down The Track From Every Angle, Even Inside!

Opala VS Maverick – Watch These Brazilian Flyers Rip Down The Track From Every Angle, Even Inside!

It has been a while since we have dropped in on our drag racing pals down south of the Equator. This time we’re checking in with our pals from Brazil and watching a pair of screaming orange hot rods screaming down a quarter mile drag strip. There’s a Maverick and a Chevrolet Opala which we’re guessing were natural born enemies on the streets of Brazil much like Mustangs and Camaros are here. The video concentrates on the Opala and it is a cool runner. Naturally aspirated inliner with a manual transmission and time slips in the nine second zone.

We love this video because we see the car get down the track during the day, at night, and from every possible angle. Of course we’re fans of seeing the driver hammer the gears but the videos from under the bumper and at the top end are cool as well. There’s lots of drag racing going on between our shores as well and we’re not ignoring that but we always think it is cool to take stock of the health of the sport globally, not just here. As you can see, there’s a LOT of people at this strip watching the cars and hanging out.

We may have invented drag racing and perfected it here, but we didn’t lock it in our borders and it is one of the coolest exports our country has ever shipped out. The sport exists on all corners of the Earth and it does so with the flavor of the people and the available vehicles driving it. In this case it is classic Brazilian iron with radial tires on it. Swap the Brazilian for American and you have the types of races that are drawing big crowds here at home.

The common theme? Cars that look like cars, and performances that everyone can get excited about. 9s in a naturally aspirated full body car with a stick and a six banger is awesome, awesome stuff. So good!
