Of all the great things we have caught on film over the year at Famoso Raceway over the years on our live broadcasts, the footage you see below ranks pretty darned near close to the top. Why? Firstly, it involves two of the most historic drag cars still out there pounding the pavement in the forms of the Winged Express and the Bradford’s fuel altered. Secondly it involves crazy antics in front of a packed house at what is one of the most historic strips in the world, and finally it involves the Winged Express passing the Bradford’s car on the INSIDE between it and the wall! Oh, did we mention that you will also hear Jon Lundberg announcing the whole thing along with Mike English? This is truly a fantastic piece of video and Chad’s excitement at the end is 100% palpable.
We’ll have some magical moments this weekend during the race but we’re not sure that we will ever be able to surpass the sheer greatness of this moment in our live broadcast history. exciting stuff. I am such a fan of nostalgia racing I can’t stand it. Back when I was a kid hearing stories of stuff like this from the older guys I hung around with made me wish I’d been born 20 years earlier. With the growing popularity of this kind of stuff all of us can see, hear, smell, and feel what was a golden time in Drag Racing.
Mike was clearly channeling Wild Willie on that one.
