Rick Dyer’s Awesome C.A.R.S 1969 Camaro Is For Sale – Street Legal Drag Racing History On The Block!

We’ve got to thank Corey Stainbrook for the tip on this historic and totally sweet 1969 Camaro. This is not just any old 1969 Camaro, this is THE 1969 Camaro that millions of guys across America lusted after during the 1990s as it was on the bleeding edge of the spear for street legal drag racing at the time and is one of the vehicles largely responsible for stuff like Drag Week today. Blown apart and rebuilt in 2007, the car is exactly as it was on the exterior. The engine is a lot tamer than it was back in the days when it was ripping eight second passes down the track but it still has plenty of nuts as it is a 502ci big block built by legendary builder Sam Gianino. Us, like lots of you remember seeing this car splashed across the pages of Hot Rod Magazine and other publications as it and a small group of cars stormed all over the country and wowed crowds with wheels up racing, blindingly quick elapsed times, and fit/finish that rivaled the finest show cars of the day. Even today the thing looks great. Normally cars of this period with yellow EVERYWHERE have not aged so well, but due to the history, the quality, and the sheer bad assery that this car stands for, it all works well.

We’d go on but the ad does a great job laying out exactly what this car is, was, and will be forever:

Own a piece of hot rodding history! This pro street 1969 Camaro RS won Hot Rod magazine’s Top Ten Hot Rod’s of the Year and was one of the original Fastest Street Car racers. It has been on the cover of Hot Rod magazine and featured in numerous articles in several magazines.

The car ran very low 8-second passes in the early 1990s. The chassis remains largely unchanged, complete with the Dana 60 rearend with a spool. The car still has its distinctive and functional aluminum wheelie bars and rear-deck racing spoiler/wing.

In 2007, the car was completely rebuilt. It was repainted and anything that was worn was replaced. The racing engine has been replaced with a very driveable a 502hp 502 engine built by Sam Gianino. The engine has ported and polished cylinder heads, Dart Intake and Holley Dominator Carb. The transmission is a performance-built TH400. The Camaro has only been used for shows since it was rebuilt. The car comes with the Center Line Convo Pro wheels and Hoosier tires shown. The interior has custom CARS Inc. yellow vinyl and hounds tooth, Auto Meter Gauges and a B&M shifter. The car has a complete racing cage.

Always a great car. I thought it was originally more of a paler, ‘lemon wood’ yellow, not a chrome, pearl yellow. I t would be cool to see a reunion of the remaining cars. I know Danny’s 67 was burnt & rebuilt……These cars were past my time, but still fun to watch!
