Historic Drag Racing Footage: Sacremento Raceway Circa 1973 With Funny Car, Top Fuel, More! Legends!

It is always so awesome to find a piece of drag racing footage that we have not shared with you before, especially when that footage is fro California in the early 1970s. This one is bitter sweet though as it is looking more and more like Sacramento Raceway where this was made is on its last legs. The place is being legislated out of business and there’s not much that seems able to stop the voracious and frankly idiotic California political machine from swamping the place. More on that at another time. Back to the history.

Our eyes bugged out at this footage because the first thing we see is the iconic Del Rio Brothers roadster! This is a car that won the AMBR award in the early 1970s and then started setting NHRA records. At the time you see it here, the thing had been on the track for about a year and it as still hauler. We know where this car is now and we can tell you that it is in capable and amazing hands and it looks as good as the day it was finished!

In top fuel there are some interesting cars including one with a mono-strut rear wing that we could not directly identify but we could identify one of the most beautiful cars of all time in the form of the Rain For Rent machine that James Warren and Roger Coburn terrorized California with in the 1970s .With the wheel pants and its flowing body, that is one of the most wonderful top fuel looks ever.

Sideways runs from the Elephant Gas Corvette, Jim Murphy in his Holy Smokes Satellite, this is awesome!
