See The Aftermath Of Eddie Grimes’ Vicious Drag Truck Wreck – The Cage Saved Him

(Photo credit: Murder 88 Facebook page) If you are a fan of things that are cool and you live in the Maryland area, there is an excellent chance you have seen Eddie Grimes and his Murder 88 S-10 truck before. It is a street legal rig and it is really, really quick. Ok was would be the proper term here because Eddie suffered a massive crash last weekend while out running the little twin turbocharged beastie. The truck rolled multiple times, flipped over walls, got into the woods, and was mangled basically beyond all recognition. Grimes was able to climb through the area where the windshield used to be and with only minor scrapes on his hands, walk away. Seems impossible, right? It happened.

A post on the Facebook page linked to the truck states that the brakes failed and the little S-10 hit the guardrail at the end of the track at over 110 mph, rolled 6 or more times and ended up in the woods. Grimes is a metal fabricator by trade and he built the chassis of the truck. There are tons of amazing photos at the link below, including the story of the wreck, the truck, and all kinds of interesting tid bits. The images of the cage up close are the most neat to see because this thing was beaten to a pulp. The welds all seemed to hold but it appears there was some tubing that was actually ripped open by the ferocity of the calamity.

We believe this run took place at Mason-Dixon dragway in Maryland. We’re glad Eddie is OK. Hit the link below and see all the photos and get the full scoop on the crash. Wow!

Since these street car folks don’t want their et’s and speed known, we don’t know how fast this truck runs. I’m going to assume over 150 mph and I don’t see a chute. Looks like stock type front brakes also.

I am Eddie’s girlfriend and I know this truck just as well as he does. This truck did at one time go in the mid 8’s at 150 mph….. at a quarter mile when we would run at Capitol. This did not happen at Mason Dixon. At South Mountain Raceway this truck was going 111 mph when he crossed the 1/8th. This speed does not require a parachute. We ran nt because we were constantly testing the truck out. It always had something that we were improving on it week to week. It would be fantastic if people did their research before jumping to conclusions about things. How about we talk about the fact that this son, boyfriend, father, and uncle is still alive instead of pointing out everything that is “wrong”.

So what you are verifying is that this truck should have a chute. Do you take chutes off and on when you run at different tracks or do you just neglect safety regulations? Maybe your bf survived this time and everyone is so very thankful for that, but maybe you should take this as a warning and get bigger brakes and keep a chute on a truck that runs mid 8s in the 1/4 at 150mph at Capitol. As a son, father, uncle, boyfriend yada yada, maybe he should worry more about his safety to go home to his loved ones then trying to allude his prospect competition to win a bet.

Running stock s10 front brakes on a twin turbo ls, there was much room for improvement on the brake system and a chute would be needed for sure.

Wow, the car looks really bad actually. Good thing he’s alive. Car can be fixed, broken boned will be cured and this is what really matters. I wish him all goo, hope to see him driving the car very soon!
