We have shown you some lead up videos on this project to the dyne video that is below. Long story short, Steph Papadakis wanted to be the first guy to have a B58 Supra engine that makes 1,000hp on the dyno. Loads of cool parts, 40+ pounds of boost, and some thrashing later and he has met his goal in fine fashion and we’re guessing that there is plenty more to go with this project.
The B58 is the engine that sits in the modern Supra and it makes great power to start with. Obviously the engine has the factory head on it, the rotating assembly has been upgraded with pistons and rods, and the turbocharger has been added to make big wind. There are a few interesting parts of this video that we did not see coming.
One of the first is the fact that they had to custom machine adapters to get this engine on the dyno at all. Papadakis is a bad ass engine builder and it turns out he is a great machinist as well. Beyond that, they have changed the duel system to port injection only away from the factory DI setup. There’s a negative to this that we never considered and that nearly caused him big problems on the dyno. Watch and see.
Long story short, there is yet another entrant into the era of “make insane power with factory platform engines” category that seems to be growing by the second around here.
Only took $20k in one off parts too! That’s what I call a budget build!
