The Hot Rod Hoarder Gasser Henry J Project Part 6: Getting Close To Making Noise With This Epic Vintage Project

Tommy and the kids are back at it, because this beast is getting closer and closer to being a runner! The big block should be fun with all the new parts that have been going into it, and in this video some of the finishing touches are getting done. I love this project and I think this is going to be fun when it is time for big burnouts and gasser goodness at the track. Check out this newest update on the Henry J Resurrection project and let us know what you think.

If you missed the other videos of Tommy Lee Byrd’s new project, you missed a lot. We’ve got a link to those videos down below, including finding it and the first round of work that got done to it after getting it home. If you know anything about Tommy Lee, then you know that he’s a historian at heart and a super sleuth when it comes to finding out the history of a specific old race car. It is his super power really, and in the last video he’s went over the hidden history behind the Henry J after adding it to the Hot Rod Hoarder collection.

Video Description:

It’s time for the 468ci big block Chevy to go back into the Henry J for the final time. As a recap, we upgraded the big block with a Comp Cams hydraulic roller camshaft, lifters, pushrods, valve springs and rocker arms. Now, it’s time to handle engine externals, including the Hooker headers, Weiand tunnel ram, Holley 450cfm carburetors and more!

We’re using a Summit Racing aluminum radiator and LOTS of other goodies from Summit. We scrounged together a fuel system, using a Volkswagen gas tank, the existing hard lines that were already in the car, and used a mechanical fuel pump to make it happen. Gold Moroso valve covers and Mr. Gasket velocity stacks are the icing on the cake. I installed a B&M shift kit in the TH350 transmission, installed a shortened driveshaft (from the donor El Camino) and installed a B&M shifter.

I did the bare minimum of wiring to make the car crank up, but we’re NOT QUITE there in this video. Next time you see this car, I hope you’ll be hearing it fire off for the first time because we’re super close. We also have a new build partner coming on board…Coker Tire. You’ll see the tire and wheel combo we put together in the next video. This video covers a HUGE amount of progress and we’re excited to keep chipping away at this insane project.
