When it comes to understanding what a big moment means, you call in the experts. In the world of drag racing, specifically the world of professional level drag racing there are two guys that jump to the top of my mind.
There’s Phil Burgess, the editorial director of the NHRA and a guy who has been living this stuff since 1982. There’s also Bret Kepner one of the, if not the single most knowledgable guys on the sport of drag racing (at every level) in the world. Amazingly, both of them are my friends so when I wanted to do a show talking about John Force in a different way than everyone else has after his 150th win, they were my first two calls. Turns out, it was a good idea.
On this episode of the NHRA Insider podcast, Phil and Bret remember John as an AHRA champion, as a smelly match racer in a gross truck, as someone who understood the picture of what drag racing could be before others, and as a man who is as interesting now as he was back then. Surpassing all of his heroes along the way, John Force still strikes us as someone who has not quite found what he’s looking for yet.
We talk about swearing on live national television, climbing fences, and if there’s anyone who actually compares to John Force on any level. Overall an awesome hour of drag racing dork time right here!

Just a note on the swearing subject—— I totally blame the T.V. networks for John’s on camera antics……… They should know after all these years of doing interviews with him,how he is. they (TVreporters) should know to do at least a 10 Second Delay for John LOL I don’t blame John for his passion— and how happy he was in that moment before he climbed out the hatch to speak to the drag racing world how he felt. Anyone involved , at any level , can understand the passion—been there done that for almost 60 years myself (been involved since I was 9 )
Yea seems like a set up to stick a hot mic in Forces face after ANY run.
