They Are Still Racing (and Crashing On) The Dirt Quarter Mile In Sonora, Mexico

It was a bunch of years ago now that we first showed you video of quarter mile drag racing on a dirt course in Sonora, Mexico. While sitting on a plane home from SEMA I started to wonder if they were still “doin’ it in the dirt” down in ol’ Mexico. Turns out that they are and the stuff is faster and crazier than ever. The location looks to be the same with the tires lining the course and a berm on one side. The cars are a wild mix of stuff that actually includes diesel trucks in this video. There looks to be a PA system, a timing system, and all the basic attributes that one would need to run the place as a real race track.

We know that there are 300′ dirt drags and sand drags that are a few hundred feet, but we are not sure of other locations where cars and trucks make a “full pull” outside of this one. People obviously like it because just looking at the people lined up along the track indicates that there are a few hundred spectators watching the race anyway.

Snicker and laugh if you will but we think this is absolutely freaking awesome. Why? It proves that no matter what, no matter how, people will find a way to do the thing that they love to do. No track? No problem. Find a long, flat expanse of dirt and turn your junk loose!
