This Gasser Truck Needs Some Work And We’d Change Stuff But It Totally Nails The Vibe!

This Gasser Truck Needs Some Work And We’d Change Stuff But It Totally Nails The Vibe!

There have been a few “gasser truck” builds that have gotten our attention over the last several years. We figured that they would be kind of a hot trend but they are still pretty rare to see around in any sense whether we’re talking on eBay or especially if you’re talking about driving on the street. The point is that when we run across these things we immediately stop to check them out. Late 1950s/early 1960s Fords are some of the best trucks to give this treatment to. They look dramatic with their blunted noses and the already large factory wheel arches look monster when they are elevated and a skinny little front tire lives in their gaping maw.

This 1960 Ford gasser truck is far from perfect but the big stuff has been done in terms of getting the suspension and chassis right. The stance is spot on for our tastes. The hand painted lettering is also pretty awesome as well. A combo of creative license and some iconic hot rodding history mixed in. Personally, we’d probably paint it and letter it with a fictitious local car dealership name but that’s just us.

Where this truck is going to need some help is in the floor/cab rust repair department, the engine leakage department, and the interior finishing department. Also, we’re saying that a new set of rear wheels and tires are in order to match the steelie goodness on the front.

To us, this is kind of an idea project for anyone looking to really do one of these trucks. You have great bones and can finish it off aesthetically to make it your own. Ok fine, we’d put a blower on the 292 after rebuilding it as well!

Can’t say I’m a fan of these “never was” gassers. I put them in with straight axle Rambler station wagon gassers. A truck like this would be better suited done up like a tow vehicle from the 60s. But that’s just my opinion.

The gasser I built using a 52 Ford F-1 pickup was way more period correct than this truck! Who puts ugly ass modern style bucket seats in a truck like this?

    drop the whole thing …
put a wood push block on the front bumper
swap out the 90’s Neon seats for a bench with a mexican blanket
    other wise it looks like
    Socks on a Chicken

That exhaust system! What sort of clown sticks two drainpipes on the end of a single silencer to pretend its a dually set up?

That spoils the whole truck that would look fine with fenderwell headers painted in white Sperex VHT that are attached to a blown FE. Swap the wheels for some Gragar S/S’s and paint it candy Ford racing blue and you’d be in gasser heaven.

By the way my chicken wears engineer’s boots….
