One of the cool things that always happens when new performance models come out are the “firsts”. The first people to get one to the drag strip is a big one and then the elapsed time firsts are always fun to watch. The guys at Lethal Performance can claim to have the first 2016 Mustang GT350 to hit the ten second zone at the drags and they worked with the people from Lund Racing and Power by the Hour to get it there. Running at Palm Beach International Raceway you will see and hear the 5.2L engine make some awesome noise as it roars down the strip.
According to the video, the only major modifications made are a pair of Mickey Thompson drag radials, a Nitrous Express nitrous kit, and custom tuning by Lund Racing. The cool thing about these “firsts” especially when we’re looking at a car like a 2016 Mustang GT350 that has a new engine program in it that very few people have ever messed with before. The addition of the nitrous is only as good as the tuning and that’s where the Lund Racing guys came into play.
This run down into the 10.80s is awesome. The guy driving the thing can certainly wheel as he brought it out of the hole with the tires stuck and made the gear changes perfectly. In fact, he power shifts this thing like a master, fanning the clutch and pulling the handle between gears. Since someone’s gone 10s, we’re not going to be waiting on the nine second slips. Will it be a nitrous, turbo, or blower combo that gets a GT350 there first? One thing that’s a constant will likely be those Mickey Thompson drag radials. Those suckers just flat work!
Sounds like a clutch upgrade will be next on the list
No doubt on the clutch, that thing was slipping so bad on the shift to third that I didn’t think it was going to catch.
Still has the paper temporary license tag!
That sounds sweet!
