Every time a drag strip comes up for sale, there’s always a flurry of activity around it because these places are always a big part of the local racing community’s life. In this case we’re talking about Accelaquarter Racway in Illinois as it has been listed for sale for the princely sum of $1.2 million bucks. The eighth mile track was 100% rebuilt, revitalized, and improved just a couple of years ago by owner Frank Sisk. Unfortunately Sisk has run into healthy problems and is having to offload the property and concentrate on his own health which is certainly the logical move.
A million dollars is a bunch of money for anything let alone a drag strip but at least in this case there’s history of back up the price tag. As you will see in the photos, almost every element of the track was made new during Sisk’s aggressive reconstruction campaign and that includes the racing surface itself.
If there is one downer to the place it is that there’s the occasional flood that will basically put the whole place underwater every now and again. It happened when the place was being rebuilt and while it has not happened again, there’s always the possibility that the water could show up again and cause all kinds of problems.
Here’s to hoping that someone scoops this place up and keeps it running. It would be shameful for all of Sisk’s hard work and investment to go to waste only a couple of years after he helped bring life to the track just a few short years ago.
