Sometimes you just have to do it the hard way and that’s why we love the sound and the fury of a true max-effort naturally aspirated engine. This is so cool we can hardly stand it. Our man Barry Rabotnick at Survival Motorsports posted this video of a “427 based” engine that makes well north of 700hp at over 7,000 RPM. The engine is destined for a truck pulling application where boost was not allowed so that’s why this one is making all the power on its own.
The description in the video says that this engine had already completed several good years of competition but that it was stepped up and the power shows it. Why not release the displacement and actual power numbers of the engine? It’s always good to have some mystery in life, especially when that life is a competitive motorsports! We have often featured FE engines that Barry has built and he’s recognized as one of the leaders in this section of the engine building world.
This video is awesome because there are multiple pulls to watch and they get more gnarly each time. The first one is a low RPM checkout it seems, the second one is more aggressive, and third one really let’s this engine rip and it sounds freaking amazing. It’s almost as if they are simulating a hook to some degree because of how hard the engine gets loaded down and then they let it fly.
The last pull is one you are going to want to have your speakers cranked up for!
Does anything sound better than a FE Ford? I didn’t think so.
