Watch Street Outlaws Star Big Baller Coupe Destroy His Mustang, Rolling It Nearly 10x At A No Prep Race In Oklahoma

We didn’t plan on today becoming wreckage Monday but the videos are coming at us from all corners of the internet hot and heavy featuring badness from last weekend. No prep racing is a small segment of the drag world but it is a wild one. The premise of course is to put cars on the drag strip in conditions like they would see on the streets in a more controlled environment that is free of the possibility of wiping out a busload of nuns. Street Outlaws TV show star Big Baller Coupe suffered one of the gnarliest no prep race crashes we have seen yet days at at Thunder Valley Dragway in Noble, Oklahoma. You may remember that this was a track that Drag Week 2014 visited just a couple of months back. Like the pro stock crash we showed you earlier today, this is a case of a car losing traction at the big end of the strip and leaving the driver as nothing more than a helpless passenger when it all goes wrong.

Sean Melton of Urban Hillbilly Action Video was at the event (of course he was!) and he captured the whole mess from the starting line, shooting down course. This type of racing is on the edge stuff because as you will see, a car like Big Baller Coupe’s never seems to be fully hooked to the track on the way down and when it starts to get legitimately unhappy at speed, there’s nothing he can do to save it.

What’s truly intense about this video, other than Big Baller Coupe flipping what looks to be close to 10x, are the actions of the driver in the primered Malibu running in the other lane. That dude needs an award from the most bad ass drag race driving move in 2014 because the Mustang spins a full 360 directly in front of him, eats the wall and starts flipping virtually in his lap. The guy manages to make a desperation move into the other lane missing the whole thing by feet. The integrity of the Big Baller Coupe Mustang was not compromised during the mishap and you’ll see that up close when Melton got to the scene of the wreck. Because of the flipping, the roof is virtually unscathed. The rest of the car, not so much.

The mechanical body count is really stacking up here today. Tuesday can’t come fast enough!

I really question the wisdom of this kind of event. The idea was to let the racers race in a SAFE environment. These no prep races seem like every car is skating down the track. And do we REALLY need 462 spectators on the starting line? Ya think all these cars have reverse lockouts, or neutral switches? How long before someone gets hurt or killed and the lawyers have a feeding frenzy. Great Lakes has a very strict policy on crowd control, except on King Of The Street events. They say the track is being leased and their rules don’t apply, but I’m guessing a sharp ambulance chaser will get around that. My understanding is they still do full prep wall to wall.

Exactly. This is incredibly stupid. What does anyone expect to happen when you put a high horsepower car with small tires on an unprepped track?

you can question it all you want man. who the hell are you? I am quite sure that scores of people question the need for a prepped track. they’re both dangerous. these guys run where they wanna run. noone is forcing them. helluva lot less variables here than on the street. and before you chime in with the tired ass argument of safety, thats relative to what its being compared to. is it safer than knitting? no. is knitting safer than being an armchair quarterback? no. there’s sharp objects involved. if ya don’t like it don’t watch it. problem solved.

Well jbell, you are correct. Nobody forced them to run on an unsafe racetrack.
They did it of their own free will. However, when the time comes, and they’re in the hospital eating through a straw for a couple months, I wonder if they would question whether or not they did a smart thing. I like drag racing, I’ve been doing it for 30 years, but I don’t put my car or myself in a known unsafe situation, I won’t roll my car into a ball just to be a badass. That would be stupid.

What makes these events stupid isn’t the idea of no prep, the concept is great and better than street racing. The problem comes from the fact that an unprepped cold dragstrip is worse than racing on the street. These cars didn’t have any problems getting off the line, I saw several wheelie pics. Its down track where the track isn’t warm and isn’t getting a dosage of “pimp juice” from each competitors burnout etc that the problem happens.

Bingo, then he drove it to the right, hit the chute and the car is saved. The problem is most guys arent use to opening the chute so when something happens they dont think of that.

Why would someone with a high horsepower Mustang keep the four lug bolt pattern on the front and rear? For safety, I’d would had at least convert it to a five lug pattern.

The track was far from unsafe. The track that day hooked harder than most prep tracks I’ve seen. Big ballers throttle stuck wide open on the big end as he stood on the brakes to slow it down the motor was sting banging WOT causeing it to get unsettled. I’ve seen him drive out of alot but that was uncontrollable
