If it seems like we’re going crazy with the No Mercy 7 stuff today, it is only because we are. This was the race that had the nation talking all last weekend and it was the race that (as it always seems to do) produced some of the most incredible performances and chilling wreckage that happen anywhere. Guys like DeWayne Mills running in the 3.70s (again), we showed you Big Chief going in the 3s for the first time, we showed you Stevie Fast flying and crash landing, and now this.
Marty Robertson’s amazing Barracuda has been known was one of the cleanest radial equipped drag cars in the country. Up until very recently the car had a big ProCharger on it. The ProCharger was removed and replaced by a massive screw blower that looks like the most evil thing you have ever seen and in early testing made the car run like its hair was on fire. Unfortunately for Robertson, things did not go as planned at South Georgia Motorsports Park and the result was one majorly mangled race car.
The top video below shows he wreck from the starting line down track and the second video shows the pass with the excitement happening shot from the top end towards the starting line. The second video does not show the actual crash but it gives a clearer picture of the issues that Robertson saw himself facing as the car went down the track.
Long story short, the thing blew the supercharger right off the top of the engine and in the ensuing tribulation the car slid completely out of control and into the left hand wall. It does not look like the damage was minor. Hopefully the car can be put back together and Marty will be back before we know it.
Wonder why he didn\’t grab the chutes? It popped and was on fire for awhile before spinning. Sucks, was a beautiful Barracuda.
Probably blew the front tire off
Dang, to much power and the car wasn’t setup right yet. would of been the fastest radial tire car on the planet once it was setup, i want to cry.
Couple questions here: Firstly, why would he not have been out of it after the first pop? secondly, why didn’t he go for the chutes? Hurts to see that car wrecked, especially being that it was somewhat preventable. You live, you learn I guess, but thats one expensive lesson. Scared me at first watching the live feed. It looked earily similar to Lyle’s crash right from the time he launched smoking. Luckily the fire contained itself.
