Watch The Two Nastiest Stick Shift Opala Drag Cars In Brazil Run Side By Side 7.90s At 190! Turbo Inliners Rule

The size and scope of the sport of drag racing continues to amaze us. We have been trying to beat it into your heads over the years that the sport is not just popular here in the USA but it is popular across the globe. The world of drag racing in Brazil has fascinated us for some time because of the cars, the ingenuity, and the dedication of the competitors. This video proves just how bad ass the scene is when the two quickest stick shift Opala drag cars in the country got together to battle it out on the strip.

The track is packed with spectators and the two cars put on one heck of a show. Both of them charge down the quarter mile track in the 7.90-second zone and both of them run almost exactly 190mph across the stripe at the top end. A seven second time slip in anything is awesome but in these steel bodied, small tire cars with manual transmissions and turbocharged inline six, cam-in-block engines it is miraculous.

This video is shot in HD and we get to see the run from literally every angle you can imagine. Inside both cars, hovering above the track, from ground level, etc. Both of these guys have nailed their setups and the cars really run well. The driver in the bare steel machine puts a huge hole shot on the driver in the other lane but it is a great race and the crowd goes completely nuts when the two turn on the scoreboards.

We’re not sure the name of the track where this race is being held but it looks like one of the nicer facilities we have seen in Brazil. It also looks relatively new. The tower building and the layout of the track seem to indicate that this place was built int he not too distant past and by the way these cars hook and go, track prep is not a problem either.

Congrats to the drivers and we always look forward to seeing more great stuff from the drag strips of Brazil!

  1. Race Car Alex

I’ve always loved how smooth those cars leave, and they drive down the track so nice for being a stick. From what I’ve gathered from hitting the “translate” button on Facebook and Instagram, the track is called Velopark, and they were celebrating the 10th anniversary of it’s opening over the weekend.
