Watch Racer Jeff Paulin Pull A Bumper Dragging Wheelie At the NMCA West Street Car Nationals!

The term “bumper dragging wheelie” gets overused across the automotive enthusiast media. When it actually happens, seeing a car drag the rear bumper on pavement for any amount of time is pretty spectacular. Often times the phrase is used to describe a big wheelie but not one that actually puts chrome plate steel on the ground. Jeff Paulin can lay claim to one of the most impressive wheelstands of 2014 so far with his effort which is shown in the video below. Right on the hit of the throttle, the car begins to climb the ring gear and it achieves maximum altitude then hangs there for a few hundred feet down the track!

The good things for Paulin are numerous. Firstly, the car landed about as nicely as it could have from the height it was stood up at. Secondly, the ride height was high enough that the oil pan did not eat the track surface, and thirdly, it held in a dead nuts straight line for the entire time that the front end was up. Left to right drifting would have resulted in Paulin crossing the center line or worse, landing/smashing into the wall. Since none of that bad stuff happened we can revel in the sheer coolness of the whole scene.

Perhaps spooked, you’ll see Paulin basically idle the car down the track after landing the wheelie. Something tells us that he’ll have it tied down a little more….for the rest of his life.

I just wanted to give you a little more info on GGSGOLD Chevelle wheelie.
The car has done wheelies earlier this year at the March Meet (You posted the best one on your great site). I know to shift into 2nd when she starts going up. I shifted into second on this run and it stayed on the lower panel under the back bumper. Approx 2 sec? after shifting into second the car shut off and came down. We coasted to the end of the track turned left and went about 100 yards parked it and called my wife for a tow.. I had no ignition or electric fans/water pump. While I was going over the car trying to find whey it was completely dead a number of racers came over to check out the back bumper. I then looked at the back of the car too. The kill switch under the back bumper had a scuff on it and was in the off position. The track turned off the car as it continued to wheelie in 2nd gear. I did a replay on my tach and it showed my shift to 2nd at 5900 (I normally shift at 6700) the tach ran a short time then died as the kill switch went to off. People complemented me on bringing the car down easy but I was just along for the ride. The car was my grandmothers (my kids called her GG short for Great Grandma) and she left it to me in 1999. It was a small block show car until 3 years ago when my wife and I decided to go drag racing. I used to race at OCIR back in the day. This car won Quick Street and a Wally at Fontana March 30th 2014 and a Wally at Famoso June 2012. Questions? Thanks for posting – give Richard credit. Check out the link in the website. Jeff
