This is likely a topic that is not breaking news to lots of BangShifters out there, but for some of you younger guys it might be. I have actually chatted about this stuff with my sons in the last month or two and it was interesting to see them understand the idea that weight and top speed are independent of each other. Weight and acceleration of course have a hand in hand relationship, but as far as speed? Those are other more devious factors effecting you there.
This video hits all the points as to why weight and speed are not directly related and Jason does a great job of explaining it in his own funny and informative way. One of the things that’s so weird about automotive writing today is how hung up people are on weight. Weight that is having no real adverse change on the dynamic and performance of what it being driven. Our favorite is when people are talking about how fast the Hellcat is and then all of a sudden drop the, “yeah, but it’s real heavy!” Who the hell cares?!
Back to this topic, though. If you have a young gearhead in your life, we suggest having them spend the 3 minutes watching this deal. Worth it and they’ll understand the concept by the end!
this is why speed at Bonneville in aero mod limited classes is so mind blowing
so glad you said drag ,i am not a pilot, but as any pilot knows air is pulled not pushed .
