The Parting Shift: Ride Along In A 4-Speed Big Block A/Stock Camaro At Bandimere

The Parting Shift: Ride Along In A 4-Speed Big Block A/Stock Camaro At Bandimere

Chad and I both love stock and super stock eliminator. Its is still a thrill to see classic muscle car era iron running down a drag strip especially when it has been tuned to perfection and is equipped with a manual transmission. In this video, we’re riding over the shoulder of NHRA stock eliminator racer Larry Henderson in his big block, four speed, A/Stock class Camaro at the Mile High Nationals at Bandimere Raceway outside of Denver, Colorado. We’re thinking that this is an eliminations run as Henderson “drives the stripe” at the top end of the race track and you’ll see a vintage Chrysler product stick its nose out at the finish line.

One of the things to know about stock eliminator is that on race day, competitors run in a dial-in type format unless they are matched up against a competitor in the same class. For instance, if Larry were to have been matched up with another A/Stocker in this video, it would be a first to the finish line, no break out contest. Lots of stock eliminator guys are more into class eliminations (a scenario contested at about half of the NHRA national events each year where cars of the same class are all matched together to see who has the quickest car in each category) than they are about winning the eliminator with bracket racing prowess. Some of the best foot brake drivers in the sport race stock. This isn’t a class where throttle stops and delay boxes are part of the program, it is about drivers “hitting the tree” on their own and to see the best do it consistently is great fun, especially when wheelies and gear jamming are involved.
