Back in August, we had gotten word that Accelaquarter Raceway in Harrisburg, Illinois was going up for sale. Owner Frank Sisk, who had revitalized the track heavily in 2006, was stepping away, needing to take the time to focus on his health issues. The track has been up for sale since 2016 in various forms, and the 2019 season never happened, but we’re getting word about a new event that is going to go down in early November that honestly, I can’t think of ever happening before. Maybe Lohnes can weigh in if he has, but I’d be shocked if it has happened before.
The event is called “One For The Money, Two For The Show” and will be held November 1-3, 2019. Here’s how this will work: For a $5,000 buy-in, up to 300 Super Pro box-equipped cars can come slug it out, door car and dragster alike. 275 drivers must be registered by October 28th, 2019 to guarantee the two big prizes: a $400,000 pay out, and the news that has huge implications, every driver who pays their fee is entered into the drawing for the biggest prize: the deed to Accelaquarter Raceway. No, I did not screw that up. As long as 275 teams show up to throw down that weekend, somebody is going to win the paperwork that turns over a recently refinished 1/8th mile track in the middle of the corn fields of southern Illinois. Additionally, there is over $40,000 in promotional giveaways that will happen during the weekend.
