2018 Goodguys Del Mar Coverage: It’s All About The Paint, The Finish, and The Culture – Lowriders, Baby!

(Photos by Wes Allison) – There are few more interesting sub-cultures in the world of hot rodding than that of the lowriders. These cars have history that starts in the late 1940s and continues to this day. The earliest low riders were doing the same thing that today’s cars are. Sitting low, scraping the ground, and prescribing to the “low and slow” lifestyle. These cars are steeped in Latino heritage as they were born from those roots back in the day. Today the culture of low riders is one of incredible art and amazing finish.

We don’t think we’re being out of line here when we say that often times lowriders represent the pinnacle in creativity and execution in areas like paint, interior finish, and overall detail finish work. When you get to plated frames that have thousands of hours into finishing them, these statements are tough to deny. Below you will see some of the finest examples of the breed. Check them all out because they all bring something to the table.

We may never own a low rider but we can tell you point of fact that we’d look at them all day long and twice on Sunday if given the opportunity.

Check out the incredible lowriders that were on display at the Goodguys show below!

Have admired many of those since I was a kid just for the craftsmanship…every part of the car treated like jewelry. I’m sure most of these are a team effort, no one guy could have that much time.
