I have a lot of fun, as a Chevrolet guy, telling Fox Body Mustang owners that their Ford engines are cute but that an LS practically installs itself. I’m doing this to get a rise of course, because brand rivalries are as old as car brands themselves and that’s what we do. Ford guys give GM guys hell, we all give Mopar guys hell, and everyone laughs about it. But brand loyalty is a real thing and some folks get so fire up about it that they would never put another brand’s part in their project. I mean I know folks who won’t use a Ford 9″ rear in their car because they are so brand loyal.
But does brand loyalty bite you in the ass sometimes? Yes is the right answer. I mean if we take the emotion out of it, and look at thing analytically, then building the perfect hot rod or race car would include parts from all kinds of manufacturers because we’d be using the best parts from every manufacturer. In fact, there are entire areas of the aftermarket that couldn’t exist without brand loyalty. After all, companies like Tremec wouldn’t have a huge market for transmissions if everyone would just use what was available at the wrecking yard already. But people don’t want to crossbreed. LOL
In this new video from our friends at Willomet Motor and Fab, the topic of brand loyalty is being discussed. See what you think. We’ll also be handling it for an upcoming Podcast here at BANGshift.
