Single Seat Race Car Build Part 6: Box Plating Model A Frame Rails. LOTS OF TIPS!

Single Seat Race Car Build Part 6: Box Plating Model A Frame Rails. LOTS OF TIPS!

In the last video the box tubing main frame rails had to be removed and replaced with factory Model A frame rails because of the rules of the event. On paper this can’t possibly be as strong but with some strategic boxing I think the actual end result will be plenty good. With that said, boxing plates that are not installed properly can sometimes pull the framerails and cause warping issues on their own. Watch these being installed and learn a bunch of tips that will make this mod stronger, smoother, and easier.

Bennett’s Customs is an Australian traditional hot rod builder that does some pretty cool car and motorcycle projects, and they have embarked on a new project that must be done by September in order to go racing at the Perkolilli Red Dust Revival. This is a single-seat race car build, like one that you would have seen in the 1940s and they are building it from a mix of scratch-made parts, stuff that has been sitting around collecting dust, and some more traditional parts they will no doubt be wheeling and dealing for. If you are into traditional rides, like those we feature from Iron Trap Garage, then you are going to dig what they are doing here. I’m intrigued, and inspired, by projects like this because we all tend to make projects that are so complicated and big that they take forever. If instead, we worked on some smaller projects, maybe we could get more of them done.

This project here is no lightweight with regards to the work required since they are doing this all from scratch, but it sure looks like it is going to be a fun one and we can’t wait to watch it come together.

Video Description:

On this episode we finished off the frame. We design and build our own boxing plates and install them into the Original Model A frame rails. With 72 days until the tires of this meet the clay-pan we are working day and night.

Jordan’s car is being prepared for the Lake Perkolilli Red Dust Revival 2022 which is held on a dry claypan near Kalgoorlie in the outback of Western Australia. All the cars have to be built before World War 2 or constructed of components from the pre-war period. It is grass-roots motor sport at its best!
