2018 Carlisle Ford Nationals: Cool Mercury, Edsel, and Ford Machines From A Bunch Of Eras

2018 Carlisle Ford Nationals: Cool Mercury, Edsel, and Ford Machines From A Bunch Of Eras

(Words and photos by Joe Grippo) –  The 2018 Carlisle Ford Nationals went down the other week and we continued our streak of never missing this blue oval extravaganza. While this show has evolved over the years into a Mustang centric gathering, there are still plenty of Ford and Mercury offerings to ogle over on the Fun Field. 2018 is the 50th anniversary of the Torino and that brought them to Carlisle in droves, all years were represented. An Indy 500 pace car, malaise era luxo-barges, big block drop tops with the killer laser stripes and even a Boss 429 urged Starsky and Hutch Zebra 3 clone all mixed together and making up what had to be the largest Torino mini-meets anywhere.

Fords of the ‘50’s, ‘60’s and ‘70’s were everywhere. Fairlanes, Mavericks, Cougars, Edsels, Fairmonts, Thunderbirds and more in every possible configuration and level of modification. 20 years of the Focus was celebrated by a huge turnout of the Focus Rising Car Club including a large display in the main building. Love the long roofs, like me? Check out the all original Mercury Colony Park station wagon from the late 1960’s, perfectly aged and seasoned. Some wildly unique rides I spied were a killer Pro Street Mercury Marauder Drag Week veteran sporting a turbo mod motor. But the dare to be different vehicle that topped them all was the crew cab Maverick with an ECO Boost transplant and olive drab coloring. So bitchin.

Do not miss the 2019 Carlisle Ford Nationals, book your rooms now and we will see you there!
