Every Wonder How Formula 1 Pistons Are Made? This Dude Went To The Factory! Check It Out…

I’ve seen pistons being made, and it’s a pretty bad ass process. But there is something kinda special about seeing where Formula 1 pistons are made. After all, these things are a different animal in many ways, even thought they technically do the same thing as any other internal combustion engine’s pistons. There are some serious design differences going on here though, and more importantly you are talking about pistons for engine programs with budgets in the millions. I mean seriously, F1 stuff has always been so top secret it’s just the kind of unobtainium that makes people wonder if it is even real.

Well, we assure you it is and we’re pretty sure you are going to learn some stuff about F1 pistons in the video below, so check it out.

Video Description:

A single F1 piston, including it’s development and manufacture can cost over £50,000. There’s no doubt, they’re incredible engineering – but I wanted to understand more about how they’re made, so I went to Cosworth to understand the life of a piston – from design, all the way to the dyno – and every step in between – and it genuinely was one of the most interesting days I’ve ever had.
