(Words and photos by Bob Chiluk) – With summer in full swing, the entire country is host to some sort of motoring event for you to partake in. If you are a fan or follow Goodguys Rod and Custom Association you already know that their event in Columbus Ohio is dubbed as “The Big One”.
More commonly known as the PPG Nationals, it again did not disappoint. The Ohio State Expo was packed with 6000 + hot rods and custom cars from all over the country. With seminars, auto cross ,swap spaces, car coral, huge manufactures midway,once you attend you can understand the attraction of this event.
Builders were competing for a bunch of prestigious awards including Street Rod and Street Machine of the year awards. Young Gun awards, a builders choice area, and a bunch of others had the GG’s staff running wide open all weekend. We would have a month of coverage if we had to get all the cars that show up to this event! From mild to wild ,from simple to sensational, it all shows up here”

Where have all the Street Rods gone ? Looks like 50’s, 60’s and 70’s iron have taken over . Some are just OK but it looks more like a junk yard crawl than a Street Rod Show.
Street rods are so 1980’s. Times & tastes change. But wait, in another 50 years they will be back.
Also, did ever a car come out of Detroit that looks meaner or nastier than a ’59 Buick? I think not. I just love this trend.
