In The Shop With Emily: The Motor And Transmission Come Out Of The Impala Project

In The Shop With Emily: The Motor And Transmission Come Out Of The Impala Project

Way later than we planned on, we’re back with the second episode of “In The Shop With Emily”. This is the web series that follows the adventures (both in and out of the garage) of Emily Williams. Emily is a gearhead in every sense of the word and after a late model Pontiac GTO build last season, she’s elbows deep into a 1964 Chevy Impala this year. That car is going to be turned from a ratty looking cruiser into a really nice street machine over time. In the first episode you saw a bunch of stuff about the car and about the goals of the project. In this episode the rubber meets the proverbial road.

Joined by a friend who is completely foreign to the world of mechanical stuff, the two pull the engine and transmission out of the Impala. It is always fun to teach people something or to give someone an experience that they have never had before. Whether that is one of your kids that you are teaching to properly operate a ratchet or that is your lawyer friend who has never so much as seen the bottom of a car during her time on this planet, it is the same feeling and Williams delivers it to her pal here. You can see a genuine sense of happiness and accomplishment wash over her as the engine and transmission are removed separately. One major difference between us and them? We’ve never busted out into a dance party in the shop before…that anyone has ever seen anyway.

Like we told you leading into the first episode this is not highly advanced gearhead theorem. This is practical stuff that we’re all in some stages of doing and Emily is a great host. Those of you that were busting chops before the first episode because Emily happens to be a very attractive woman, you’ll still have that problem so feel free not to watch.

We dig real world stuff and that is exactly what this is.

As the father of daughters I can’t tell y’all how happy this makes me. Emily (and now her buddy is learning) will NOT be a victim to some rip-off artist at a repair facility and won’t be helplessly stuck on the side of the road. Besides, Emily at least has a fun and fulfilling hobby that she actually PRACTICES instead of talking about it.

It’s interesting to me that I, too, am working with an attorney doing some first-time auto repair. Guess it’s going around.

I think it’s badass to see any young person have the vision, the drive, and the willingness to do the dirtywork when taking on a project like this, regardless of gender.

Great to see, best wishes to her. 43 years wrenching at Ford dealerships never ever saw a female mechanic who could do it for a living. Lots tried, all ended getting canned or bolted. That is the true test in my book. Would love to be proved wrong.

When I was going to MOTECH the few chicks that were there got snatched up and had cush jobs before they even graduated.

I was freaking out with that girl dangeling her legs in the engine compartment while motor was being pulled out!
