Mitsubishi Is Bringing A New Outlander – Can a Bottom Dollar SUV Save The Ship Here In America?

Mitsubishi Is Bringing A New Outlander – Can a Bottom Dollar SUV Save The Ship Here In America?

(By Tom Lohnes) – With the new Outlander, the first all-new Mitsubishi since 2009’s Lancer and Evolution X, Mitsubishi hopes to attract some buyers who previously left the brand for better cars. Well, according to one of the few Mitsubishi dealers left, the new Outlander has “next-level” fit and finish.

We really do not know much about the Outlander, except for a few things. The base engine will most likely be the lifeless 1.5-liter turbo-four and CVT out of the Eclipse Cross, and the upgrade will either be a reworked 3.5-liter V6 or a new turbo four that no one knows about yet. A plug-in hybrid will eventually come, as well as an all-electric version sadly wearing the Evo name. Exterior styling will be inspired by the recently refreshed Eclipse Cross, and hopefully the interior gets an update, because it is needed more than anything. There will be a minuscule third row like the last-gen vehicle, and cargo space will most likely be the Outlander’s main promise.

In such a packed class, what will Mitsubishi do to stand out? Well, like the current Outlander, the new one will for sure start at the low end of the price range, with the Kia Sorento and Nissan Pathfinder. What will the outcome be? We can only see. Your move, Mitsubishi.
