Action Racing Photos: More Pirelli World Challenge Shots From VIR – This Is Killer Stuff!

(Words and photos by David Whealon) – While we showed you guys some of the Thursday testing action the other day from the Pirelli World Championships from the beautiful Virginia International Raceway, today we will be fast forwarding to the Sunday race action which bookended my Sports Car Racing / NHRA Drag Racing weekend sandwich. We start out with Round 2 of the F4 US Championship Race which ran first thing Sunday morning. The F4 US Championship features an entry level open wheel Honda powered spec program designed in conjunction with the SCCA and the FIA for young racers from all over the globe to serve as a training ground in their transition from the karting world into the realm of international racing.

With a full field of 33 racers the 30 minute sprint race had plenty of excitement for the young brood taking it to the 17-turn, 3.27-mile road course. Shortly after all that Round 4 of the PWC classes of TCR and TCA hit the course. The 40 minute touring car race featured 27 cars with the likes of your daily driver rides you would see in your local shopping malls.  From Audis to Volkswagens and everything in between. The winning hardware was handed out in TCR class to the Bryan Herta Autosport Hyundai I30 N with driver Mark Wilkins along with Eric Powell taking the top step in TCA bringing his Tech Sport Racing Subaru BRZ TS to victory. Next up will be the marque SprintX GT big boys of the PWC eleven race season which headline the fields with all your exotics with the likes of Ferrari, Bentley and Lamborghini. Stay tuned………..
