The Pistons Fight Back: Will Porsche eFuel Be The Synthetic Solution To Stem The Electric Tide?

The Pistons Fight Back: Will Porsche eFuel Be The Synthetic Solution To Stem The Electric Tide?

(By Tom Lohnes) – Porsche, possibly the most pedigreed maker of internal combustion engines out there, isn’t ready to give up and go totally electric. They have spent the past 13 years working on a solution to environmentally friendly vehicles without ditching their famed engines. Well now, I’m happy to say they’ve found a solution.

Basically just synthetic gasoline, “eFuel” may be the petrol of the future. With emissions numbers on par with most modern EV’s, eFuel saves the planet without the need of a massive lithium mine, which actually makes electric cars pollute more in the first 5 years than gas cars. Porsche is so far into development with eFuel that they ran the new 911 GT3 on it during the launch. Yes, the 9,000 RPM track monster can be a low-emissions vehicle if possible. Trials for eFuel in the real world start in 2022, and if they go well, car enthusiasts around the world will have Porsche to thank for keeping their cars on the road.

Of course, there is room for things to go wrong. But synthetic diesel has already been in use for a good while, and it hasn’t done any harm to the engines or environment. Let’s hope eFuel is the future of Internal Combustion Engines, because they’re not ready to go yet.

Germany was using synthetic fuels at the end of WWII when their conventional supplies ran out. Doesn’t surprise me that it’s Porsche that is spearheading this.

They were low octane, well below the Allies. This led them to use NOS to add more power.

you might be thinking of methanol injection, pretty sure the NOS company didn’t exist back then
