There’s a Company Converting Smart Cars Into 50-State Road Legal Golf Karts – Smart-Karts Are Brilliant

We’ve all looked at a Smart car and thought to ourselves, “Man, that thing is no bigger than a damned golf kart!” Well, a company in Florida has decided to make that statement a reality by converting Smart cars into 50-state road legal golf karts that retain the airbags, factory AC and heat, stereo, and actually bump the seating capacity to four people. Hell, the ad below seems to indicate that the little things will still rip down the highway at 91mph!

You do lose a couple of things like doors, a roof that will protect you in a roll over, a windshield made of safety glass, perhaps what little self respect you have left, and the seats probably aren’t as comfortable on a long drive as the factory Smart units. Can you imagine zipping down the highway in this thing to the stares and derision of others? People would literally be driving off the road trying to get photos and video of your speedy kart. If you thought crashing a Smart car at speed was dangerous, we think that wrecking one of these would leave a best case scenario of a skeleton looking like Evel Knievel’s POST career.

It would be beyond awesome to road trip one of these things between points a couple hundreds miles away, in a warm climate, where it would not be raining, and where the police wouldn’t be stopping us every 10 miles to break our chops….because you know there would be a lot of ‘splainin to do if traversing any distance of note in a Smart-Kart. All that said, we’d LOVE to cruise one just for the experience!

Thanks to Charles Wickam for the tip!

  1. Hork

as the airbag blows you into the 9 iron or onto the pavement behind the cart.

I’d ask “WHY?” but I don’t want to know.

If I had a Smart car and 21k burning a hole in my pocket I’d figure out how to swap in a big block then spend the remaining 10k on beer and speeding tickets. I can’t believe there is a company making these and so few people re-popping AMC parts. WTF?
