Return To Le Mans: This 1967 Ford Video Recounts Their Second Conquering Of The World’s Greatest Endurance Race

It was not simply enough for Ford to come and win Le Mans once. The first time was sweet but additional wins would continue to pile drive the point home that the company was serious about racing, serious about performance, and serious about proving to the world that they were capable of being toe to toe with the best. For the ’67 race, the GT40 MKIV units were ready for the likes of Andretti, McLaren, Gurney, Foyt, and others. As it would turn out, the only car Ford needed to ship was the #1 of Gurney and AJ Foyt as it took them a mere two hours to grab the lead and then never relinquish it.

Oh…and Foyt was a rookie who had never seen the course in person before making a mere 10 practice lap and then hopping in to relieve Gurney for his first stint. How did that go? Well, everyone else had to have hated it because Foyt was fast and getting faster with each lap.

The Ford won won the race by about a half dozen laps and it is not only a testament to the awesome drivers but also to the engineers and mechanics who put together one hell of a big block powered monster. The best part of this video for us is the fact that the scream of the other cars is largely drown out by the roar of the mighty 427 FE engine!
