Is Toyota Building A Road Legal Le Mans Style Hypercar? It Sure Looks Like It To Us!

Is Toyota Building A Road Legal Le Mans Style Hypercar? It Sure Looks Like It To Us!

(By Tom Lohnes) – It’s no secret right now that Toyota is a dominating racing team. With three consecutive Le Mans wins they are tearing up the track. Wildly with the new Hypercar they’re rumored to be developing, they’ll be tearing up the streets as well.

So at Le Mans this year Toyota was driving around a camouflaged vehicle that seemed to be their Le Mans car which is the TS050, but roofless. Toyota has also been rumored to be developing a hypercar through their GR division. Could this be the car?

It’s likely.

If it’s using the Le Mans powertrain, it could have a 2.4-liter Twin-Turbocharged V6 and electric motors producing 1,000 horsepower and the same in torque through a 10-speed DCT. Considering the most powerful Toyota model right now is the 382 horsepower GR Supra and the big torque maker is the land Cruiser at 515 lb.-ft, we have a fast car on our hands. Also being AWD, this car could be capable of 0-60 in under 2 seconds. That is very impressive for anyone but considering that it is a Toyota, that is downright mind-boggling.

Unlike any other Toyota product ever this vehicle will be attached to a price tag above $500,000. That’s insane money for a Toyota, but is it insane money for a street legal Le Mans car? I don’t think so.

Wow, the LFA kind of made sense, but who buys a Toyota hypercar, even if it is amazing? And it looks 9/10 scale for a street car.
