We often talk about a situation where a car is restored and in the end the thing is actually better and nicer than it would have been brand new. It is not often that we talk in such a way about engines but we are today because the vintage Packard V12 in this video does not just get rebuilt, it gets rebirthed. and the process is so bad ass it makes us weep with joy. These big engines powered equally massive cars and represented on some level a peak in the early days of the American automotive design and performance realm. Designed to run smooth and make torque for says, that it is exactly what these small bore, long stroke engines did.
Wait until you see the shop that these guys are working in. The place is enormous, stocked with every tool and machine needed, and you could eat off of every surface and be fine. Hell, the damned valve grinding machine which is usually an oily mess looks to be freaking perfect in the video!
We liked the narration the best as it is both informative and unobtrusive. You learn some neat stuff about the engines and how they are assembled. The installation of the valves and valve springs is awesome and the way that the whole process was managed and run is impressive. This shop is one of the most amazing facilities we have ever seen.
