Over the years we have seen, showed you, and goofed on one of the weirdest kit car concepts from the early 1970s. Of course we are talking about the VW based 1972 Camaro kit that was made in really small volume by a manufacturer in Massachusetts. We have showed you ads of guys trying to unload the weirdly proportioned bodies, partial kits, and generally nothing worth doing anything but scoffing at. That changes today. What you are looking at below is a complete, running, driving, and really nice looking example of that kit and call us crazy but this thing is actually just bizarre enough to be fun! To roll into a Camaro meet, a car show, a cars and coffee in this thing, especially in today’s day and age would leave jaws on the floor. Hell, you and the other people who have read our other diatribes on these things are likely the only Earthlings who know these were ever made.

This has to be the nicest one on the planet, right?

The engine is a 1600cc (or perhaps slightly larger rebuild) VW and the mechanicals of the car seems to have all been gone through in recent times. The nose of the car flips up as you will see below, and the only missing pieces in the whole program are the t-tops which apparently have disappeared somewhere in the car’s lifespan. It runs, it drives, it has a VIN and a title, and yes, you can buy it for basically $7,000. It would honestly be worth that for one summer’s worth of WTF looks being shot at it.

The car has appeared in magazines and stuff over the years and could be one of only five claimed bodies ever made by the KAR Manufacturing company in the early 1970s. Hilarious!

I always wondered if any of those things survived. I think they made a couple of other characature models, as well.

OK, lack of doors is a deal breaker fer an old greybeard like me (I have trouble getting out of bed in the morning!) but this is STUPID KOOL!!! I have never seen anything LIKE this! Doesn’t look like the hatches would be that hard to fabricate, either! Oh, to be 30 years younger…
