It takes effort to say that there is such a thing as making a Toyota Yaris a rocket ship or a track attack machine. It’s akin to the old yip about polishing a turd…you can make it pretty, you can make it faster than it was, but in the end…why?! Even form one of the biggest proponents of the weird and unloved, a Toyota Yaris is right up there with a Chrysler K-car or a Geo Metro…it was never supposed to be anything more than solid, basic transportation. Only the most sick, demented and creative folks can look at a beat-up Yaris hatchback and see the potential to make it some kind of street hustler…
Oh…Marty and Moog are attached to this project? Suddenly, things make more sense. “Yaris Hilton”, their latest project, has been all about everything I’ve written above. One Yaris, one Corolla-sourced engine, 200 horsepower at the wheels, some suspension…in theory, it’s supposed to be a little ripper of a car, the kind of fun daily that works like a hot hatch. But does it work in practice? That’s the question and in this episode of Mighty Car Mods, that question gets answered. Spoiler alert: the engine won’t make it out of this test alive.
