Work Truck With Flair: This 1963 Ford F600 Wrecker Is Cool, But About That Paint Job…

Work Truck With Flair: This 1963 Ford F600 Wrecker Is Cool, But About That Paint Job…

(By Greg Rourke) – I confess I’m envious of Brian’s wrecker Brutus. It’s a cool old working truck from the days when trucks were built to do one thing: work. Here’s one from that era that would look real good in my driveway.

What we have here is a 19 and 63 Ford F600 with a Homes split boom wrecker. The booms can operate independantly of each other, and can be swung to the side, 90 degrees from the truck. Brian once posted a photo of Brutus performing this truck, lifting Buford T. Justice off the ground to place jack stands.
The engine is a Y Block Ford V8 gas, likely a 292. Brutus also sports 292 cubes but only needs six cylinders to accomplish this. Backed by a four speed manual with a two speed rear, this allows eight forward gears when manipulated properly. And dig all the vintage Sun gauges on and in the dash! A CB radio featuring 23 channels, and lots of extra lights. I could do without the bizzare paint scheme however. Minuses would be replacing bad brake and fuel lines before it can be driven, and likely all six vintage tires, no matter how much tread remains.
I’d look good tooling around town in this baby, but I’m already on my HOA’s naughty list so I gotta pass.

It must have been owned by a shop with some “back door ” business .And they must have paid the painter from the back door
