Nicest One On Earth: This 1966 Ford F-260 (yes, 260) Truck Is Incredible

Sometimes you have to hate your friends. I have been searching for a project/old hunk of something for a little while now. I’ve been in this mindset of finding a cool, old four wheel drive truck and I’m kind of honing in on the Fords of the 1960s and 1970s. Freiburger knows this so he was being “helpful” by sending a link to the most amazingly beautiful 1966 Ford F-260 (we’ll get to that in a minute) the world has to offer at the moment. It is the most expensive too, at $33,500 but judging by what the ad says and what the pictures show, this thing is worth every red cent.

Why is it an F-260 and why are we not dumb for calling it that? The F-260 denotes a factory four wheel drive produced truck. For ages four wheel drives were all aftermarket conversions from NAPCO, Coleman, or other companies. By ’66 Ford saw that they were losing out on profit and began to really rally on the idea of touting a factory built four wheel drive truck. The aftermarket guys were not long for the world in the size that they had been existing because once the factories started knocking them out, their products were largely redundant in the consumer market.

This truck has all the original stuff you’d want from the 352 4-bbl engine, the four speed manual transmission, the cab is all original steel, we don’t even need to go on. Even the freaking wheels are original. The truck was on a farm in Oregon for decades, obviously used lightly and cared for lovingly. The current owner/seller restored all the stuff that needed to be restored and went so far as to paint the truck in the same single stage enamel it would have left the factory in, not a modern multi-stage paint job.

This thing is Smithsonian good.
