Sacrilege Or Supremely Cool? This 1972 Dodge Challenger 4×4 Is Gold To Some And Gory To Others

Well this should bring some reactions. What you are looking at is a 1972 Challenger that has been placed on a M1009 military truck (Blazer) chassis. The power plant and drivetrain are all GM. The interior from the original car is intact and pretty nice. In fact, the whole thing is pretty well done if we don’t say so ourselves. As many trars as we have seen here over the years, this is definitely a top 10 or maybe even a top 5 job as far as the professionalism of the work. Oh, and in case you think that the rig can only crawl malls, there are some photos in the ad that show the thing getting down at the Hollister off road park in California.

We’re guessing that Mopar fans are going to, umm, strongly dislike this car/truck combo. Why? Well E-bodies are not exactly growing on trees anymore and especially those that are as clean as this one to start with. Secondly, it is basically a rebodied Chevy and that’ll have its own negative emotional impact. GM guys? They likely won’t care because their stuff gets swapped into and under everything anyway, so why would they. Truck guys will probably have some respect for the machine because of the photos of it articulating and actually working over some rocks. Car guys? They are probably just going to shake their heads and wonder why the thing does not have a big block, slicks, and a four speed in it.

So what group do you fall into and what do you think?

Its definitely different and looks well designed. Not my cup of tea though. Getting in and out would cause bodily injury to myself.

  2. Chevy Hatin' Mad Geordie

I bet Kowalski would have wished he had this as he would have driven right over the bulldozers at the end of Vanishing Point!

Yeah for actually using this thing as intended.

Boo for the Chevy motor and chassis. A big block Ramcharger chassis would be a lot better.

Hi guys! Yes, it\’s come to an unfortunate time where I have to see this monster depart from me, but in all honesty, I can replace always the car, but can\’t replace my family. So the money spent to help my Dad out, FAR outweighs my need to keep this. (Although I wish I could do both!) Believe me, I have always planned to keep it and remember, I bought it this way, so there’s a few things I had planned to change in the future as well. Like eventually throwing a Mopar 383 under the hood, (since the motor mounts are relatively the same) as well as upgrade to either 35\” or 37\” x 13\” wide tires, upgrade to a 4L80E instead of the 60E, and of course; add rock protection; (sliders, skid plates, roll bar, and maybe even a roof-rack with Gravity-Pro6 Lights on top of the roof).

The Blazer chassi is a better choice over a Ramcharger one. For whatever reason even though the suspension is nearly the same the Chevy works better, rides better, and has a ton of aftermarket stuff available for it. A trip over to ORD would turn this thing into a real monster. I like it.
