Big Burnout Video: A Compound Turbo Cummins Powered 1955 Chevy Truck Boils the Hides For A Long Time

Boy, is this some mean rig or what?! A bright red 1955 Chevy truck that is packing a seriously worked over B-series Cummins engine under the hood that clearly makes plenty of torque and horsepower. There are a few different videos of the truck doing stuff like pulling and horsing around, but this video of a monster burnout really struck us at our BangShifty foundation. Between the steel wheels, the great paint, the nice chrome work and the sound, this truck is flipping awesome. The truck seems to be sitting on a modern chassis and it does appear to be wearing a lift kit. When we say “modern” chassis we mean something newer than the original piece from 1955. The front axle is a tell tale of that.

There are people out there who are trying to beat the drum of diesel being the enemy of hot rodding and we think that is a pretty lame angle to take. We’ve never discriminated over the method of making horsepower here. Would this burnout have been better if there was a small block in the truck or a big block? What difference does it make in the end? Although we’re betting that outside of the massive horsepower and torque the truck makes the guy gets hilarious fuel mileage out of the big package. The man is winning on all fronts in our eyes, anyway.

I’ve been wanting to build a M715 with similar running gear. It’s a beautiful truck. Kudos to the owner. Also if people say that diesels aren’t hotrods they haven’t owned one. I don’t care what kinda combustion it has if you can make it faster it’s still a hot rod. Diesel, Wankel, Radial, whatever.

I think the diesel hatred can be attributed to all of the “rolling coal” fools. Love the sound of a modified diesel pickup, but the cost for even a used diesel pickup truck, especially here in the northeast, is f$&@ing bannanas. The one featured here is a beast though.

Wow…this is incredible…expecially considering that this truck originally came with a 327, as far as I know. We put a 350 in ours, but I preferred the 327….Diesel?! Nuts! …and on an original 4-wheel drive? Did they drop the transfer case and put in a longer drive shaft so that it didn’t have to be geared so low? I have so many questions for the owner!! Nice job!

Neat looking truck but riding the brakes while doing a burnout is hardly an impressive display of power, could do that with the stock 230 inline 6 I bet.
