Big trucks are so big now that we sometimes forget where they started. There was a time when a “Big Rig” had mechanical brakes! Or course they didn’t haul 50,000 pounds around back then either. A heavy duty truck like this 1954 Chevrolet 3800 was what was referred to as a 1-ton, like the current group of HD trucks from Chevrolet, GMC, Ford, and Ram. It was a heavy duty truck, destined to be used by farmers, industrial companies, delivery companies, and more. This one is in excellent shape, has a cool flatbed on it, and runs and drives nice.  If it was mine, it would get a later model crossmember and suspension swap up front, with a matching 14 bolt rear, and lots of air ride goodies from the boys and girls at Ridetech. I’d lay this thing on it’s nuts while also allowing it to haul anything you could ever want to. I have a feeling it would be fun.
