BangShifty Resto Video: Watch This 100 Year Old Gasoline Powered Drag Saw Get Torn Down – So Cool!

This is the most ambitious project that Mr. Hand Tool Rescue has scooped up and begun the process on in his shop. It’s also the first video we have watched with his narration and that brings the whole process to another level. Why? Well we love watching the guy get the work done but when we get to hear his process, hear him talking about the parts and pieces that are challenging him, and giving us inside information, it makes the whole viewing experience event more interesting.

This 5hp drag saw dates from around 100 years ago. Used to saw though huge logs, this was basically one of the earliest portable gas saws in the world. The machine was a mechanical version of two guys dragging a long bow saw through a felled tree or tree limb, and it’s a brilliantly simple design and concept that is executed in that wonderfully Rube Goldberg way stuff was done 100 years back.

This video shows the teardown of the saw and it’s much more than that for us. It’s a detailed, almost forensic engineering study on how the saw was built and how it operated. We’re in love with this big machine!
