Watch This 4.6L Jeep Stroker Engine Make Solid Power That Would Have Your Jeep Roasting Mudders

We all get hung up on engines that makes a zillion horsepower or are made of solid billet and cost as much as a small aircraft. The nature of this stuff is to zone in on the shiny stuff that makes the most noise and cranks out the most insane umph, then revel in it, right? Well, not really. Regular guy hot rodding still exists and there is still a massive swath of guys who are not looking for 1,000hp engines that cost a zillion bucks. There are people in all walks of hot rodding that are looking for a reliable engine that they can stuff in their car or truck, have fun with, and not worry a damned thing about. Enter this Jeep stroker.

Golen’s Engine Service in New Hampshire has long been known for their Jeep engines. At least in this region of the country they have been. This is not billet-gloryville but instead it is the type of stuff lots of poeple want and the type of stuff that lots of people can afford.

The engine you see on the dyne is about $6,000 and we’re not here trying to sell you anything, just providing the context that is costs less than the fasteners in most of the hardcore Drag Week engines out there. It makes solid power as well. This one makes 276hp and 319.9 lb-ft of torque. There’s a factory head that has been cut some, given a performance valve job, and bolted to a factory block. There’s aftermarket forged steel rods, a COMP camshaft, and a lot of other great parts and thoughtful tweaks that see this engine making about 90 more horsepower than stock and almost 100 lb-ft more of torque. All on its own with no other assistance from boost or a bottle.

Pretty cool, right?
