An All-Aluminum, Flat-Plane Crank, DOHC V8 in 1940! Ford’s 1,100ci (18L) GAA V8 Is a WWII Marvel!

The Godzilla might be a beast, but it’s tiny compared to the all aluminum, double overhead cam and flat plane crank equipped, 1,100 cubic inch V8 that Ford built in 1940. Yeah, 1940! This is one bad ass engine and while it doesn’t make nearly the power, per cubic inch, that the Godzilla makes, it does make over 1,000 lb ft of torque even though the horsepower is only at 500. This thing is cool as hell because of the technology, so it is no surprise that Ford would be the manufacturer who embraced overhead camshafts for decades in a variety of performance applications. In this video here from Rare Classic Cars And Automotive History, you are going to get to take a look at one and get all the specs.

If you had access to one of these, what would you put it in?
