OUCH Video: Watch This Cummins Powered Dodge Blow A Tire On The Dyno and Bust A Guy’s Arm

We have talked a lot over the years about how dyno pulls are inherently dangerous. We have thrown driveshafts out at 100+ mph, we have seen cars slide off the rollers, seen connecting rods bounce off the floor, and now we can add seeing a tire failure break a guy’s arm to the list. This video is brutal. Lots of people will be quick to blame the operator standing next to the truck, fine to do that if you want but we’re showing this as more of a cautionary tale because it is kind of shocking this situation does not occur more often, especially with big trucks like this.

Many times when these trucks are being pulled on the dyno the speed they are making with the rear wheels outpaces the manufacturer rating of the tire. Combine that with the massive load being placed on them with the truck strapped down hard to prevent wheel spin and this is the result. It’s something that we always grit our teeth when watching in person or on video, especially when the tires start to deform during a pull.

Think this guy is lying about getting his wing busted? Look at what the flying shards of tire did to the bedside of the truck, which is made of steel. It seems like one may have broken the railing on the dyno platform as well.

Be safe out there, kids. Your arms are typically important.

It’s a wonder this doesn’t happen more often, those tires have a low speed ratings and on a dyno have a severe load on them.

Either he has spinners on the wheels or the tires are slipping on the rim. Stupid stuff anyway, just like rolling coal.
