Cool Video: Travel The Same Path Air Does Through A Rolls Royce Locomotive Diesel Engine

It is pretty incredible what people can do with animations these days. In this video we get to travel as air through a Rolls Royce locomotive diesel engine and it’s pretty great. While there is nothing too crazy about the “suck, squeeze, bang, blow” stuff, we dig the technology employed with the turbos and other systems, mostly for environmental control purposes. These engines are some of the hardest working in the world and they, like all train engines, are vital to the moment of people and goods around every part of the Earth. It has to be neat to be an engineer on one of these projects because of the fact that your work is not only extremely powerful but important to the function of modern society.

The graphics in this video are nuts and we’re guessing that there was loads and loads of work to get it completed and to keep the look accurate. We did not see one stitch of “weird” imagery here. It is all very true to form and if you spot something let us know.

The big diesels that power the generators that send the train down the line are as important as any other working engine around the globe. The MTU wing of Rolls Royce has been building big diesels for marine, stationary, and prime mover applications for many, many years and they continue to be a worldwide leader in the field today.

Let’s take a trip through one of their engines, shall we?
