Copart Cadaver: This 1972 Chevy C10 Was A Pretty Awesome Truck Before It Was Decapitated – How In The World?!

It has been a couple weeks since we last presented you with a Copart Cadaver and implored you, our readers to become crash investigators and tell us what in the heck happened to the vehicle shown. This time we’re brining you the case of a curiously destroyed 1972 Chevy C10. This long bed truck was someone’s pride and joy before a horrendous accident befell it and its occupants. The damage is so weird we’re trying to figure out how it happened. The upper cab, doors, and roof section of this truck were completely cleaned off. It doesn’t look like they are cut off by emergency workers trying to get to the people in the truck but the removal seems so clean and uniform we’re kind of at a loss. Remember when Bufort T Justice and his son had the top of their Catalina sheared off while chasing the Bandit? This reminds us of that.

It does look like the truck rolled over per the damage on each side and the nose. The crumpled good, bend grill, and dislodged doors all point to some pretty bad hits and weird angles but there is no one area that indicates that the truck pounded a tree or something else before going on to phase two of what had to be a scary ride for anyone in the truck. This was a handsome truck before the wreck. The paint looks like it was decent if not a little patina’d, there were some decent wheels on it, and a small block that looks to have been warmed up a little. There’s a factory looking AC compressor on board and all the markings of this being a fine cruiser and a good example of the hot 67-72 C10 segment right now. Yes, it was a long bed and not the “preferred” short bed style truck but we’ll tell you that we likes us some wheelbase around here!

There may be some value left in the rear axle, the tailgate, and some of the smaller bits that are not mangled beyond saving here but outside of that, lots of this truck will be headed to the crusher and the smelter to be shipped offshore and return to the US as who knows what.

Your job? Tell us what happened here!

  1. Chevy Hatin' Mad Geordie

And it was written that the great Gron Lurifax the Lord of all things Ford shalt stalk the Earth for all things Chevrolet. Lo! his rage is terrible to behold when he findeth such sewage! For he will sliceth off the head of this fowl creation and sucketh out its owner to feast on his soul and dineth on his brains!

    Here endeth the lesson……

These trucks were notorious for rusty cabs, especially in the rain gutter above the windshield. Perhaps when it was restored, the cab top was cut off and the new one was not properly welded back on. When the truck rolled, the top just popped off.

Looks like he pulled a ‘Clark Griswold’ , except the log trucks’ trailer wasn’t tall enough and the snow bank on the other side launched him further.

I would gues that rescue personel had to use the jaws of life to remove the roof to get him out if indeed it had rolled. The roofs on those flatten out pretty easily when rolled.

Years ago my uncle hit a folded up plow that was being pulled behind a poorly lit tractor this truck looks earily similar. Often large farm equiptment is made in such a way to be transported. Rural america loves long bed trucks cause they are uesfull. Bet this was the case with truck.

I;m guessing some Easterner greatly overpaid for this truck as they tend to value them far more than out west. He was having it shipped to him, foregoing the adventure of driving a new purchase for the first time. It was on the top deck of the carrier when it went under the not quite high enough overpass… breaking off the tiedowns and barrel rolling down the highway to finish off the other panels.

” Hey JimBob, this truck would look great with a chopped top!”
“Very astute observation, BillyFred, shall we commence?”
    Chop chop grind slice chop!!!
    “Hey JimBob!!!!”
    “Yes Nellie Jane?”
“You forgot to purchase my feminine hygiene products at the general store!”
“But Nellie Jane, the roof is off the truck”
    “JimBob! I need them NOOOOOWWWW!!!!”
    “Yes I will go now!!!”
    Drive drive drive
“Hey Billy Fred, did you say ” turn right, here?”
“No I said TURN LEFT, RIGHT HERE!!”
    The End

Did just what Buford T. Justice did, but it looks as if the trailer was moving. Drivers side wheels show the pickup was dragged sideways with the far side trailer wheels trying to climb the passenger side fender.

I submit: Truck was involved in a minor crash/steering failure that required a ‘Tow’. Said Tow Truck was a Roll Back that oput the total Height of the C-10 roof at 9 to 13 foot. Tow Truck goes under a lower clearance (bridge, sign, overpass, ect) and peals the roof off, also ejecting the truck as the chains snap.
The insurance for the towing service pays off the owner, Co-part disposes of all vehicles for that insurance carrier.
