Many of you are going to hate this video because it involves the destruction of an engine and a cool engine at that. Many of you will be disgusted by seeing a crusher bound Detroit Diesel V-16 two stroke that was pulled from a junkyard run until it coughs its last breath. We kind of get that but we also understand that this dude bought the engine out of a wrecking yard where it was going to be smashed to bits and junked anyway, and there are not exactly a load of uses for these things anymore. It is a three ton engine that makes like 600hp.
So the fun parts of this video for us are not the moments of the big monster running as hard as it can until it blows up, it is the DeBoss garage guys going through it, getting the thing to run again, and showing off some of the monster mill’s unique features. There’s some legit learning here for those of you interested in knowing more about Detroit Diesel engines.
You may hate the idea of wrecking something but we’re going to stand on the idea that this engine was going to be bashed to bits by an excavator without ever taking another breath before these guys got hold of it.
How does it finally die? You’ll have to watch and find out. This thing actually comes back from the dead for a hot second…
(Thanks for the tip, Dave Beard)
REV IT TO DEATH!!!
It’s a 3 ton engine that made almost 3000 ft/lbs torque. Horsepower is not the point.

Ole Detroit went out like a BOSS.
that was immensely entertaining… now I get to watch it a second time cause I’m forcing the wife to watch it during dinner
It is NOT common rail by any stretch of the imagination. It simply has a lift pump supplying fuel to the individual injectors. Injectors are simply metering pumps stroked by the camshaft. Speed is regulated by a rack and pinion system. Produced great power for its day but severely smoky. Way back when most city buses had them . It was nasty being behind them from a stop light.
