eBay Find: This 1957 Chevy Short Bus Is Window Lickin’ Good

Old school buses are a special kind of neat, but old short buses? Those things are in a league of their own and this one proves it. When you combine the classic looks of a 1957 Chevy truck and a body that’s a little weird on the proportions side, you get one neat looking classic that the seller thinks is worth way more than it actually is. Look, we agree that these things are not growing on trees, but $10,000 for a non-running, non-driving, non-stopping truck like this? Who is the customer? Ok, we’re the customer but it needs to be like $2,500 or something in that neighborhood for us to start sniffing around and being that this is old old bus, it probably smells like a giant rolling gym sock.

Can you imagine this baby with a 468 in it, six speed manual transmission, on airbags rolling into an event with Chad and I up front and McTaggart cleaning the rear windows with his tongue? We’d be like some sort of demented Partridge family or something. The potential is certainly there for this vehicle. It could be made into a pretty sweet little camper, stressing the little part. You’d have to hire a pretty slick designer to wedge enough stuff into the back for a place to sleep and a place to work but it certainly has potential…endless potential.

Overall, the bus looks really solid with no clear signs of terminal rust in either the curvaceous body or the floors, which is big. Having to fix some of the corners and other pieces where the kids used to ride would require really stout metal working skills or paying someone with said skills. The 4100 series badge on the side makes this a 1.5-ton chassis. The engine in the bus now is a dead inline six which we bet could roar to life with some carb and ignition work. Those things are totally unkillable. The transmission is probably an SM420 four speed with a granny low first, and the rear axle ratio is probably stratospheric. There’s no way this thing does 70mph…downhill…with the clutch in.

Are we completely off the rails here? Does this 1957 Chevy short bus rule? Should it cost way less than $10,000?
